Blackpool's A Knockout

Help For Heroes

20 January 2008

Yesterday four dedicated members of the team gave up their weekend to test the water up in Blackpool.

We set a target of four hours to see if the record was indeed achievable, and we all kept a record breaking pace with no breaks, covering over 80km of sliding between us.

We returned to Blandford elated with our victory but with a new found respect for the current record holders.

The team met up at 0630hrs this morning for the first time since Christmas. Dan's New Years Resolution must be to get fit because even he graced us with his presence. Most opted for the the warm comfort of the Gym and worked out in the Cardio Suite. Myself, Luke and Lynn were feeling brave and faced the darkness and rain head on to go for a run. We're all in agreement that we need to step up the training a notch to have a chance of beating the Germans but without a solid training program we're just kinda making it up.

After a long weekend off the team were all back in training Wednesday morning with high moral for the week ahead. Most of them in the gym while Luke and Damien played in the Christmas golf competition. Training seems to be paying off as Dan looks more of an athlete than ever before and Luke’s golf trousers did not look he'd sprayed them on for the first time in years. Christmas training plans are on the drawing board and were all setting our sights on the new-year. Damo

Well it’s back to training again after the weekend. Dan is back from his trip to Germany but failed to turn up for today’s session. NO GOOD! People’s commitment is being tested with these early mornings but most are coping OK. We are still breaking ourselves into a full training plan and the sessions will become more intense as we move on. The team is gradually getting fitter with a good balance of training. Luke

After a week apart the remainder of the team all swear that they have been keeping up with the training but somehow I don’t believe everybody. I had been training all week and even managed to fit some very cold water training in on my wakeboard at WakeMK. Well we will be training hard for the coming week and look forward to the return of Dan next week who I’m sure is training equally hard. Kev

It’s now the 4th day of leave and my training has trailed off a tad. I’m finding it hard to resist the chance of a lie in rather than training. However, I am sure everyone is feeling the same, and must of sneaked one or two in. Well I’ll be out of training for a week as I am off to Germany on Monday, I’ll have to make sure I am not too tempted by that tasty cheap German beer. Dan

0800 saw the team (most of them) meeting at the local pool for training session number 3, some members were overly keen and arrived early they lived to regret the decision as team swimming coach Chris put them under a bit of pressure and they decided that getting trim also meant they could sneak off for a sauna. Others mentioning no names, Kev and Johno! are tryers bless 'em. Still all in all it was a worth while exercise and the team can now concentrate on their weaker points for next time.

0630 saw the start of training session number 2, would everybody turn up again? Dan was stolen from us by his other love, hokey and Lnn turned up...eventually. Then we got hard on it pumping iron to get our bodies strong enough for the sliding and cut for the cameras. Needless to say most were aching for the rest of the day.... Kev.

The first training session of the team, and it was a relief to see that most members turned up! As the team are all starting from different levels of fitness, it was decided that a gentle run would be a nice wy to break everyone into training. this consisted of a 2.6 mile run (although it was debated that it was actually 2.4) The run consisted of Kev, Pete, Luke, Johno and Oakley The Dog. The remainder of the team chose to carry out training in the warmth of the gym, and this was Lyn, Dan, Max, Damo and Rabi. We will see what tomorrow brings.... Johno.
